Boys love adventure, especially in the outdoors, and summer camp can be one of the most memorable ways to experience this. Boy Scout Troop 888 located in Amador County, CA, would like to send their thirteen scouts, ages 11-15, to Camp Wente, a Nationally Accredited Boy Scout Camp near Willits, CA, this July, to experience the adventure, excitement and learning from tent camping, nightly campfires, camaraderie, outdoor activities such as archery, canoeing, horseback riding and structured programs designed to develop the boys' confidence and character and skills. Summer Camp can teach perseverance, resourcefulness, patience, teamwork, and self-esteem, as well as environmental sensitivity and wildlife conservation.
As a new troop in a primarily low-income region, the funding is simply not available to offset any of this cost for the families of these fine young men. Funding must come from either donations or the limited personal funds of our scouting families. Some families have two scouts hoping to go to summer Scout Camp. Some scouts may not be able to attend at all due to the financial hardship.
The Rotary Club of Amador Upcountry wants to provide all 13 scouts of BSA Troop 888 with a potentially life-changing experience in the outdoors.
Breakdown of Costs
- 13 Scouts for one week at Camp Wente @$435/scout $5,655.00
- Sleeping mats and Nalgene Water Bottles $250.00
- SpotTracker Off-Gride Outdoor Emergency GPS Tracking Beacon $180.00
- LifeStraw Water Purification for Wilderness Camping $115.00
- Overhead $372.00
If Funding Goal is Exceeded:
Any excess beyond our goal will be used to purchase essential camping equipment such as lightweight hiking tents, hiking backpacks, and personal mini camp stoves with pots, for future additional Outdoor Activities training and adventures.
If Funding Goal is Not Met:
Funding Summer Camp is our top priority. If full funding is not met, all the funds received will be used to offset portions of the camping fee for each scout, divided equally, to help reduce the parental financial burden of this outstanding learning experience.
